Brett Albanese’s journey with cannabis began as a patient seeking relief when conventional pharmaceuticals and therapies failed to deliver desired results. Discovering cannabis brought an introspective alignment and a freeing of the mind, prompting him to question existing systems and laws. At a time when regulations were unclear, a failed drug test while on probation for possession resulted in 45 days of incarceration. This experience raised a critical question: if the state of California recognized medical cannabis, shouldn’t patients retain access to their medication while serving sentences?
Teaming up with Dr. Claudia Jensen, Mr. Albanese took his case to the highest authority of the California Medical Board, ultimately becoming the first person to receive cannabinoids legally within the California judicial system.
In 2008, Mr. Albanese hired a consultant to obtain licensing in unincorporated Los Angeles County. Due to misinformation from the consultant, he was subjected to raids by local authorities. After clarifying his intentions, the Board of Supervisors recognized the path to obtain a cannabis license. This led him to attend the first cannabis convention, where he engaged the community, gained signatures, and connected with Harborside management for consulting on government relations and licensing. With support from the mayor of Oakland, an emergency meeting by the Board of Supervisors revoked the existing business license, refunding Mr. Albanese’s investment.
Following challenges in Los Angeles County, he relocated his business model to Point Loma, San Diego, where licensing laws were more permissive. During the inventory transfer for the grand opening, he was pulled over on the 5 Freeway and arrested for distribution and intent to sell, temporarily postponing progress while another court case was resolved.
Afterward, Mr. Albanese opened a grow facility in Santa Ana, California, and acquired Kali Culture Solutions dispensary, where he gained insights from Alec Dixon at SC Labs about the endocannabinoid system and the interaction of cannabinoids found in plants. He learned that healing with cannabis is most effective through concentrates or edibles, sparking his passion for understanding cannabis delivery methods.
With limited high-quality products and inferior modified electronic cigarettes available, Mr. Albanese traveled to China to collaborate with engineers to develop superior delivery devices. He helped engineer their original atomizer and secured several key design patents, which became an industry blueprint. Leveraging his knowledge of cannabinoids, terpenes, and delivery, he envisioned a self-sealing tank system that encapsulates oil, ensures accurate milligram counts, prevents leaks, and extends shelf life until consumption. This utility patent was secured in 2016.
Mr. Albanese is a patient first, cannabis activist second, and entrepreneur third. His journey began at Kali Culture Solutions, focusing on concentrates as the most effective way to help patients. Eighty percent of the business was dedicated to selling concentrates and educating consumers on their benefits. Recognizing the need for reliable delivery devices, he engineered sleek, high-performing vapor devices, filing four patents for various designs.
Over the years, Mr. Albanese has dedicated extensive time to researching and experiencing a wide range of cannabinoid products while also engineering some of the highest-standard delivery devices in the market. His vision is a marketplace offering clean, dependable products with transparent information, backed by science and predictable results.
Brett Albanese has received nine High Times Cannabis Cup awards, four patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office, and brings over 20 years of experience and industry relationships, spanning farms, manufacturing, and product development.
